Pilot dies in plane crash in Columbia Valley

Columbia Valley RCMP said a person had died following a plane crash north of Brisco on Friday, November 24th.

RCMP were alerted at approximately 4 p.m, of a small plane crashing on the Bugaboo side of the valley.

Brisco is a small community located north of Radium Hot Springs on Highway 95.

RCMP said that a hunter had observed the plane apparently having engine trouble, then go down in the wooded area.

Columbia Valley Search and Rescue, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, and Transport Canada were all advised and provided resources.

“On the morning of (Saturday) November 25th, the crash site was located and it was discovered the pilot, who was the only occupant, did not survive the impact,” said Sgt. Ed deJong of the Columbia Valley RCMP

“Our condolences go out to the family of the pilot who is a local area resident.”

“We would also like to thank all those partner agencies involved in the search for the plane,” deJong added.

RCMP said that Transport Canada will be the lead investigating agency going forward.
