Former reporter for the Nelson Daily News print newspaper, Colin Payne, has put together a collection of photography during the past decade.

Payne, who recently moved with his family to Atlantic Canada, decided to release his best pictures during his time living in the West Kootenay.

“A piece of my heart is still with you there, and in an effort to give it some space, I put together this collection of my best photography from the West Kootenay over the past 10 years,” said Payne, who arrived at the NDN newsroom as a photojournalist following a stint working in Golden.

The collection, Mountains and Rivers Without End — A decade of West Kootenay landscapes is available at this address.

“The gallery is a ruthless hand-picket selection of my best West Kootenay landscape images from the past ten years,” said Payne.

“It is, in equal parts, a homage to a place I love so deeply and a retrospective of my development as a photographer.”

Payne is donating 25 per cent of the proceeds to the Valhalla Wilderness Society to support local conservation efforts.

“I’ve seen over the years how they relentlessly advocate for conserving wild places and protecting species at risk,” said Payne about the Valhalla Wilderness Society donation.

“It’s my pleasure to support them however I can.”

The Nelson Daily News closed in July of 2010 when the more than 100-year-old newspaper was purchased by a rival media company.
