The Nelson Library opened its doors again on July 27. Library members can now browse, pick up holds and borrow items.

New library members can sign up for a library card online or in person. The Library is re-opening in stages and in this stage of re-opening there is no computer access, washrooms or seating. Due to a lowered maximum capacity, library members are encouraged to spend no more than 30 minutes at the library.

“We are excited to be opening our doors again to the public,” said Chief Librarian Tracey Therrien.

“Though there are many changes, people will be happy to see familiar friendly library staff who are committed to providing excellent service during these strange times”.

Library hours are shorter to allow staff to perform important tasks like re-shelving and sanitizing while the building is closed.

The Library is currently open Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10-2 and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-6. The first half hour of opening on Wednesdays and Saturdays is reserved for seniors and the immuno-compromised. Staff is available by phone from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday to Saturday.

The Library closed in mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the building was closed staff worked hard behind the scenes increasing online services, doing online programming, ordering library materials, preparing for re-opening and running a takeout service. Visit the library website at or call 250-352-6333 for more information.
