Nelson Air Cadet Natt McIntosh is spending his summer working at the Nelson airport.

McIntosh has been a member of 561 Nelson Osprey Air Cadet Squadron since 2017 and is going into his fourth year with the squadron.

At the airport, McIntosh is helping with airport maintenance, assisting with aircraft fueling and being a local ambassador to visiting pilots and their passengers. He also has been able to get a few flights in local aircraft, including being in one of the aircraft during the Canada Day fly-by.

McIntosh is looking forward to bringing his new found experience back to the other air cadets in the squadron when the squadron starts meeting in the fall.

Since he joined cadets, McIntosh has attended a summer course in Victoria, attended Sport Weekends and has been flying in the Air Cadet gliders.

The Cadet program, which include Sea, Army and Air Cadets, is the largest government funded youth program in Canada with over 50,000 participants across Canada. The cadet program accepts youth between the ages of 12-18 who have a desire to learn more about the Canadian Forces, wish to develop the attributes of leadership and good citizenship and who wish to promote physical fitness. While the program is military based, there is no obligation for a cadet to join the Canadian Armed Forces.
