On July 6 – 7, communities from across the West Kootenays participated in the annual MS Bike to raise funds and improve the lives of Canadians living with multiple sclerosis (MS).

More than 60 cyclists came together to successfully raise more than $81,000 that will be used to accelerate the pace of MS research breakthroughs and provide programs and services to enhance the quality of life for those affected by MS.

“We are thrilled with the support from the West Kootenay community once again this year,“ said Carina Stirling, Development Manager, MS Society of Canada BC & Yukon Division.  “We had 60 cyclists who raised over $81,000, which is an outstanding achievement. We wish to thank everyone for their critical support and for continuing to bring awareness to this great cause.”

Funds raised from this event will support innovative research into the cause, treatment and cure of MS while also providing valuable programs and services such as the Volunteer Legal Advocacy Program (VLAP), Equipment Provision Program (EPP), MS Knowledge Network and 1:1 Peer Support Program for people affected by MS in the West Kootenays.

“Through fundraising events such as MS Bike, the MS Society of Canada BC & Yukon Division is able to host free educational events for people affected by MS and the local primary care network in the West Kootenays,” noted Jocelyn Cater, Community Services Coordinator, MS Society of Canada BC & Yukon Division Interior Regional Chapter. “We are also able to support individuals establish and continue to run local MS Self Help Groups in the community through the funds raised,” she added.
