If head coach Jesse Pinnero had a chance to do it all over again, he may have not scheduled Fight Night 3 on a long weekend.

However, after putting the last chair back in storage the Nelson Boxing Club skipper was pleased with the results of his boxers following Fight Night 3 Saturday at the Nelson Rod and Gun Club.

“I’m really happy with the results, although if I had to do it all over again I may have not scheduled the event on a long weekend,” Pinnero told The Nelson Daily after approximately 180 spectators found time in their long weekend plans to attend the card.

“There were still a lot of people and the boys put on a great show.”

Pinnero was pleased with the fight of 13-year-old Elias Martinez.

The Nelson boxer was up against a 16-year-old fighter, Dylan Clark of Cranbrook one of the few exhibition bouts. And Martinez showed he has the skills to go a long way in the sport.

“This was probably the most skillful fight of the night,” said Pinnero. “Elias showed us a lot, and if there was a decision I thought he might have won.”

Exhibition bouts do not have decisions. Other exhibition bouts featuring Nelson fighters saw Riel Martinez against Cranbrook’s Dylan Muhlig and Max Berkeley in the ring against Cranbrook’s Tom White.

Other Nelson fight results included:

  • Samson Berkeley winning a decision over Kelowna’s Brandon Emerick.
  • Brayden Hellekson scoring unanimous decision against Revelstoke’s Logan Ancell.
  • Dominic Lentini of Revelstoke earning a unanimous decision over Kenny Stanton of Nelson.
  • Kelowna’s Miguel Diaz jumping all over Jesse Lyons of Nelson to score the decision.

Pinnero said despite Lyons losing the decision, he was impressed with the grit of his fighter.

“Jesse got overwhelmed at the start, got knock down twice but came back and had the guy on the ropes in the third,” Pinnero said.

“He showed a lot of heart and skill to get though that fight.”

In the main event, Aram Matisyan of Calgary scored a knockout decision over Kelowna’s Clive Fagan in the 69-kilo weight category.

Pinnero said next bout for Nelson fighters is June 10 in North Vancouver while Fight Card 4 is expected to be back at the Rod and Gun Club in October.
