GROUP OFFERS SUPPORT, INFORMATION FOR NELSON FAMILIES LIVING WITH DEMENTIA
Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias can leave family caregivers in Nelson feeling isolated.
But they need to know they’re not alone, says Julie Leffelaar, the regional Support & Education Coordinator for the Alzheimer Society of B.C. for Nelson and the West Kootenay region.
“There are other people to share the journey with you,” she says.
The Society runs a monthly dementia caregiver support group in Nelson, for residents who want to prepare themselves with current information that will help improve quality of life with the disease.
“It’s a safe environment where you can learn, laugh and help each other through mutual understanding.”
The group offers the chance to exchange information and friendship with others affected by dementia, access the most current information, and learn and share practical tips for coping with change.
It meets on the first Wednesday of each month from 7-8:30 p.m.
