Killjoys, RollerGirls open WKRD season with on fire
The Nelson Killjoys got some revenge on defending West Kootenay Roller Derby Champ, edging the Dam City 253-229 on opening night Saturday at Selkirk College in Castlegar.
“Both games had the full house of fans screaming, skaters go flying, drinks toasting, and referees struggling not to give themselves whiplash,” said a league spokesperson.
Despite having only eight skaters, the Killjoys, going into recess with a 149-107 lead, held off a tough Dams squad to register the victory.
In the second game, Rossland/Trail RollerGirls dumped Valley Brutality 279-171.
The game was a rematch of the Consolation Final of a year ago, won by Valley Brutality.
Next action on the WKRD circuit is April 18 at the Cominco Arena.
Rossland/Trail RollerGirls host Dam City Rollers of Castlegar at 5 p.m. and Nelson Killjoys face Valley Brutality at 7 p.m.
The four teams are going after the coveted Golden Boot, emblematic as league champs.
