Toyota Motor Corp. has recalled 147,000 vehicles in Canada — including certain RX, GS and Highlander models — because of links to the company’s acceleration problems.

The recall affects 17,000 RX vehicles from the 2004 through 2006 model years, and asks owners to bring in the vehicles to have the driver’s side floor carpet cover replaced.

Some 13,000 Highlanders between those same model years are also being recalled.

An additional 850 GS vehicles from the 2006 and 2007 model years are being recalled.

The company announced an amendment to one of its previous recalls. To the original recall announced in late 2009, it has added:

• 16,000 4Runners made between 2003 and 2009.

• 99,300 RAV4s between the 2006 and 2010 model years.

• 850 Lexus LX 570 RX models, 2008 through 2011.

U.S. regulators said earlier this month that electronic flaws were not to blame for reports of sudden, unintended acceleration that in some cases caused fatal accidents.
