BCAA office in Nelson de-certifies
By Timothy Schafer, The Nelson Daily
The city’s BC Automobile Association office on Baker Street is out of the union business, according to the BCAA senior vice president.
John Evans said the decision was allowed by the Labour Relations Board even though the union contested it.
Although it has not been confirmed on the record by the union — Canadian Office and Professional Employees Union 378 — the seven workers at the office are no longer part of the union after the results of a five-day hearing before the Labour Relations Board.
The move comes one year after the office lost three of its staff when the insurance agency closed its travel offices across the province, putting as total of 157 people out of work in the province.
