The Canadian Red Cross is helping meet the needs of people impacted by spring flooding that forced the evacuation of more than 2,000 properties in B.C.

Working alongside the province, and local authorities, the Red Cross is making financial assistance and clean up kits available to individuals and families that were forced to evacuate their homes because of the floods. Support may be available for basic needs like food, clothing or transportation, as well as health-related needs.

“In the weeks following a flood, individuals and families can face a variety of challenges,” said Kimberley Nemrava, Canadian Red Cross Vice President, B.C. & Yukon. “Many people have lost important possessions. They may have missed work while they were evacuated, and now they have to cover unexpected costs. The Red Cross is working with impacted residents and communities to help them through this difficult time”

Flood-impacted residents can call the Red Cross at 1-800-863-6582 to register and to book a confidential appointment with a Red Cross case worker who will work with families on a case-by-case basis.
