Nelson Mayor Deb Kozak delivers 2017 Christmas Message

In her annual Christmas address, Nelson Mayor Deb Kozak said the Heritage City experienced a very busy year in 2017 with strong growth throughout.
“More young people want to raise their families here, grandparents are following their grandkids here and new business entrepreneurs are appearing. . .. It’s an exciting time,” Kozak said in annual Christmas message.
Kozak is completing her third year of a four-year mandate after being elected as Nelson Mayor in 2014, defeating incumbent John Dooley and Pat Severyn in the municipal election by more than 275 votes. Nelson City council includes Anna Purcell, Michael Dailly, Robin Cherbo, Bob Adams, Valerie Warmington and Janice Morrison.
Kozak said, however, with Nelson’s popularity as being a go-to place to raise a family the city faces “challenges” as council attempts to deliver services to the taxpayers.
“Affordable housing continues to be a high priority in our community,” Kozak went on to explain.
“Nelson is a leader with moving forward with projects and initiatives to create housing and to keep our population diverse.”
Nelson joined Canada in celebrating a major milestone with its 120th birthday in 2017.
