Glacier Gymnastics Club capture 90 medals at Key City Invitational
Nelson’s Glacier Gymnastics Club competitive team won 90 medals over Spring Break at the Key City Invitational/Zone 1 Provincial Trials in Cranbrook.
This bi-provincial competition attracted 300 participants from clubs in British Columbia and Alberta.
At the event, twelve of Nelson’s Gymnastics and Trampoline athletes qualified to compete at the BC Artistic Gymnastics & Trampoline Championships in Langley, April 15-17.
Experienced competitors and past BC Provincial medalists Sara Tolles, Olivia Kelly, Brianne Stefani, Teagan McTague, Gwen McCrory, Abby Majeski, Matthew Bullen and Zoe Crisfield will lead the Glacier team.
The following four gymnasts also qualified to compete at their first BC Provincial Championships: Dafni van Hellemond, Eden Bellman, Shelbi van Hellemond and Lily Taylor.
“This is a very exciting time for Glacier Gymnastics,” said Head Coach, Sandra Long.
“Half of these gymnasts are 9-11 years old, which bodes well for the future of competitive gymnastics in Nelson.”
The coaching team at Glacier Gymnastics has developed a diverse programming strategy that is beginning to mature.
“We will continue to see bigger and younger teams attending BC Championships in the future, “said Long.
“And the level and quality of our gymnastics and trampolining will continue to increase.”
