One of the world’s leading authorities on local currency will show Nelsonites this month how “Kootenay Cash” can have economic, lifestyle and long-term benefits to businesses and residents.

Micheal Linton will be part of a public forum Saturday, Oct. 30 at the Capital Theatre (7 p.m.) on the local currency revolution.

Linton created the Local Exchange Trading System (LETS) in 1983. This trading system has been utilized in many countries around the world as an alternative to the existing monetary system.

After many years in development, Linton has now created a new local currency model called Community Way. This new model is one that could revolutionize monetary exchange locally, regionally and internationally.

Linton and some of the leading members of the local currency movement will be in Nelson to share the new local currency model, how it works, who benefits and how easy it is to implement in a new community.

The tour will continue to Kimberley and Fernie, two neighbouring communities interested in implementing a local currency strategy.

The forum is a chance to learn what is happening to the world’s economy and why the local currency movement is gaining momentum locally and around the world, how it can enhance the profitability of a business, provide revenues for local charities and help invigorate a more vibrant economy in Nelson.

This public forum and open discussion period is hosted by the local currency initiative of Transition Nelson www.transitionnelson.org.

Tickets are $5 (limited seating) and are available at the Capitol Theatre Box Office or online at www.capitoltheatre.bc.ca
