The L.V. Rogers Bombers started slow but finished with a bang as the club captured the gold medal at a High School Girl’s Volleyball Tournament Saturday in Salmon Arm.

The Bombers overcame a sluggish start in the final to edge Merritt 16-25, 25-9, 15-9.

“In finals against Merritt, it took them a full set to get sorted out . . . they lost their first set in weeks but came back like the team they have become and overcame the loss by pushing themselves every point and using aggressive play,” said Bomber coach Jennifer Kidd.

LVR opened play on Day 1 by defeating Desert Sands (Ashcroft) 25-11, 25-12, AL Fortune (Enderby) 25-20, 25-6 and Kings Christian (Salmon Arm) 25-12, 25-9.

During Day 2 crossover the Bombers started out slow, but still came out on top beating Barrier 25-15, 25-13.

In semi-final action, LVR played Kings Christian again and had trouble bringing their game together. The Bombers were not consistent with their passing and serving but won 25-21, 25-17 to advance to the final.

LVR won the JL Crowe Block Party tournament earlier this season, defeating Grand Forks Wolves in the final.

The Bombers return home to the Hangar Thursday November 16th, when LVR faces off on home court against Trail in the AAA zone finals.
