This Christmas many children and families in the Nelson Area will experience a Merry Christmas thanks to the Nelson First Responders 12 Days of Giving Christmas Toy/Food Drive.

Nelson First Responders — Nelson Police Department, Nelson Fire and Rescue Services and BC Ambulance — teamed up WLWP Wealth Planners, the Nelson Safeway and the Adventure Hotel to guarantee families in Nelson spend a wonderful time during the holiday season.

More than 200 people, including Santa Claus, supported the recent event at the Adventure Hotel, all practicing social distancing and mask policies to  facilitate COVID-19 requirements.

The Adventure Hotel and WLWP Wealth planners were super appreciative to have the first responders become a part of the event this year by bringing toys and food from all around town.

A big shout also went out to Nelson Safeway for all of the food baskets they donated for families in need.

Organizers said that all the toys and food baskets went to local families in need derived from lists from all of the local schools with the remainder of toys went to the Salvation Army to fill their list of local needs.

As for cash and food donations, those were sent to the Nelson Community Food Centre and all books went to the Columbia Basin Alliance for literacy.

Organizers want to thank everyone who participated in this amazing event.
