The Village of Salmo has completed a major upgrade at the Salmo Cemetery that includes the demolition of the crumbling concrete fence, installation of 250 feet of new high-quality decorative metal fencing and installation of a second ornamental entrance gate.

The work was put to tender in August. The Village civic works crew did the demolition and site preparation, Ninco Construction built the concrete gate pillars, RiteWay Fencing provided and installed the decorative metal fencing and local artist Howard Roo designed and crafted the two 8ft ornamental gate panels.

Council of the Village of Salmo has prioritized the proper maintenance and development of the Salmo Cemetery in the 2015 – 2019 Strategic Plan.

  • In 2015, Village crews focus on improved grounds maintenance and the course of removing overgrown vegetation, uncovered headstones that for years had not been visible.
  • In 2016, the Village embarked on an online cemetery mapping project and application that allows people to visit the cemetery online through the Village website to view plots and search for loved ones. See Salmo Cemetery Online.
  • This year, the Village purchased a new mower for ground maintenance and completed this major fence and gate construction project.
