Garton, Timothy Charles

It is with great sadness that I’d like to announce the passing of Timothy Charles Garton, aka Timmy Timewarp (of Timewarp Tie Dyes). He passed away peacefully at Kootenay Lake Hospital after a one year battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Michelle; his two sons, Charlie and Jocko; his mother, Pat; his sister, Isabella; his niece and great niece, Shianne and CeCe; as well as by hundreds of family and friends across the globe.
Tim was born in Guelph, Ontario on March 14, 1967, where he remained until he graduated high school and quickly moved to Vancouver, BC. A few years later, he found his way to the Slocan Valley where he settled and raised his family.
Timmy was an artist, a musician, a magician, a singer, a songwriter, a fisherman, a gardener, an explorer of the universe and a follower of the Grateful Dead. He played in a band called the Wild Turkeys for 25 years and hosted many, many Thanksgiving potlucks with the band. Some called him the “king of the wild turkeys”.
He faced his cancer journey with grace, strength, and courage that we can only hope to have if we are ever faced with such a challenge. He asked that we all practice being kind and loving each other. He was very disturbed by all the division and fighting amongst our community. We need to all remember that tomorrow is never promised and to make the very best of each day we are given.
Go on adventures, fulfill your heart’s desires, keep dancing, travel, love, laugh, and be grateful every day. Be kind and make the world a better place. Timmy chose to live until he passed- even performing a ukelele number for his friends the day before he died. “I Know you Rider” with the line “ you’re gonna miss me when I’m gone”
Timmy was laid to rest at the Dumont Creek Cemetery, on the 24th of February. The ceremony was full of love, laughter, tie dyes, music, and flowers. We would like to express how thankful we are for the people at Dumont Creek and the doctors and staff at Kootenay Lake Hospital Every person we have encountered has been wonderful, kind, and compassionate. Finally, there are no words to express my gratefulness and thanks for our Kootenay family, our Grateful Dead family, and the entire community in helping us navigate this last year and especially the last few weeks. I am certain that we could not have done it without you.
Rest easy Timmy. Sleep in the Stars. We love you more than words can tell, May the four winds blow you safely home. And, until we meet again, you know our love with NEVER fade away.
