Police seize $500,000 in illicit drugs during road check stop

RCMP Trans Canada East Traffic Services seized drugs with an estimated street value of $500,000 during a routine traffic stop near Field, BC Wednesday (March 2).

Members of the Trans Canada East Traffic Services were conducting road safety checks in the area of Field, 58 kilometers east of Golden when one of the unit officers initiated a traffic stop with a suspected violator who was operating a Mitsubishi Outlander.

The officer immediately entered into a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act investigation which resulted in the seizure of more than four kilograms of marijuana and 10 Liters of high quality hash oil known commonly referred to as “Phoenix Tears”.

Police said two Alberta men aged 24 and 47 years are scheduled to appear in Golden Provincial court on May 10th.

It is extremely rewarding knowing that we were able to keep these dangerous drugs from reaching the streets of our communities,said Sgt. Rob Haney of Trans Canada East Traffic Services.
