Aidan Turner of the Nelson Leafs has signed to play for the Logan Lake Miners in the B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League for the 2024-25 season.

Turner had 18 points in 28 regular season games and added two assists in five Teck Cup playoff games for the Leafs.

His biggest growth this season came from the leadership opportunity given to him, as an assistant captain, which was the first time in his playing career. He also built on his compete level, playing “each game with a hunger to win.”

Turner, who has bounced around the past in three years, said playing for the Leafs and in the KIJHL was a great experience and said the league is “unique.”

The communities this league builds, helps a player grow off the ice as much as on, and playing for over 1,000 fans some nights in Nelson creates an amazing atmosphere,” Turner explained in a story posted on the KIJHL website.

“I am thankful that the coaches and organization in Nelson helped me get to the collegiate level.”

The Miners are an independent BCIHL team based in Logan Lake, 40 minutes southwest of Kamloops.

“The Miners team consist of student-athletes enrolled in full time courses at Thompson Rivers University and Nicola Valley Institute of Technology.

Nelson Leafs coach Leafs head coach Briar McNaney said that Turner was a great leader for our group this year, worked very hard, and Logan Lake is getting a great person.

“I asked a couple of players in the middle of the season which player helped mentor their transition the best from a player standpoint, and they both didn’t hesitate to say Aidan,” said McNaney.

“He is a throwback forward, who the staff is going to love like we did here in Nelson. We would like to thank Aidan for his efforts and his leadership.”

Turner says he’s excited to continue playing with Logan Lake and to play beyond junior is a very exciting opportunity and is excited about the future with the Miners.
