Reece Hunt of Nelson was named Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Forward of the Week following a six point weekend in Minnesota Duluth’s Bulldogs’ sweep at St. Thomas.

Hunt, graduate student from the Heritage City, led the league with five goals, including two game-winners.

She figured in six of UMD’s nine goals and scored more than half of them.

Hunt netted four goals, including a natural hat trick Friday night in an UMD 4-1 win, and then added another goal and assist in the Bulldogs’ 5-1 win Saturday night.

Friday’s hat trick marked the second of the season for Hunt and third of her collegiate career.

Hunt, who played minor hockey in Nelson and was on the roster of the Kootenay Wildcats for three seasons before attending the Okanagan Hockey Academy Female Prep program, also received Top Forward recognition in November and February of last season.

This is the first season at the UMD following four years at Bemidji State University for Hunt.

With just two weekends left in regular season play, the WCHA race continues to be an exciting one as league leader #1 Ohio State will host St. Thomas on Feb. 16-17 in Columbus, Ohio.  In a key border battle, #2 Wisconsin will host #5 Minnesota on Feb. 16-17, while Bemidji State travels to RV Minnesota State this weekend.

The Western Collegiate Hockey Association is a college ice hockey conference which operates in the Midwestern United States.

Hunt, is the daughter of Carla DeBiasio and Jeff Hunt and her older brother, Dryden Hunt, plays for the Calgary Flames affiliate Wranglers. Hunts other brother Sawyer played for the Nelson Leafs and Kimberley Dynamiters of the KIJHL.
