The L.V. Rogers Bombers started off the New Year with a bang as the Senior Girls edged Kootenay River of Creston 48-37 in High School Basketball action Wednesday in the East Kootenay City.

Liza Korinth led the Bombers in scoring with 18 points as the Bombers avenged an earlier loss this season to Kootenay River.

Atlyn Proctor and Kelsey Palazzo each added six points for LVR while Piper Maillet added 12 points.

The win was the third straight for the Senior Girls.

In the varsity boys game that followed, Kootenay River outlasted LVR Bombers.

The hoop season picks up this weekend the LVR Hangar and Trafalgar gymnasium with the fourth annual LVR Junior Bomber Invitational tournament.

Teams from Fernie, Cranbrook, Trail and Creston join host Thunder and Bomber teams for the two day event, beginning Friday at 1:30 p.m.
