LVR scores favourable results at South Okanagan Slam Tournament

The L.V. Rogers Bombers boys teams each finished with 2-2 records following play at the South Okanagan Slam Basketball Tournaments in Penticton.

The LVR Varsity Bombers opened the tourney with wins over Valleyview of Kamloops 54-46 and co-host Pen-Hi Lakers 61-58 before falling to the other co-host Princess Margaret of Penticton 74-70 and provincially-ranked South Kamloops Titans 85-50.

Meanwhile, the Junior Bombers began the tournament with a win over WL Seaton of Vernon 47-41 before dropping a pair of games to co-hosts Princess Margaret 40-35 and Pen-Hi 75-45. LVR concluded the tournament by edging Valleyview of Kamloops 47-40.

LVR Bombers Results:

  • Game 1: Sr. Boys basketball team beat Valleyview of Kamloops 54-46 in a hard fought game. Ray Pastori scored 14 points, and Shannon McBride had 13 points.
  • Game 2: In the evening, the Sr. Boys squad won a thrilling 61-58 win against the host Penticton High school. Coming back from a 12 point deficit at the end of the third quarter, the Bombers knocked down seven threes in the final frame to pull out the win. Ray Pastori scored 24 points, including the game winning three. Levi Konken and Shannon Mcbride both supported with 11 points. Levi sealing the game with two clutch free throws.
  • Game 3: Bright and early, the boys played against the co-host Princess Margaret Secondary in front of a Pep Rally crowd.  In a back and forth game, with numerous lead changes, the Mustangs of Princess Margaret won 74-70.  Leif Beneteau scoring 16 points, Ray Pastori with 15 points and Levi Konken with 10 points.
  • Game 4: A tough match-up against the provincially Top 10 ranked South Kamloops Titans in the last game of the weekend.  The Bombers only down 49-40 at halftime were outworked and outmatched in the second half.  Final score being 85-50.
LVR Junior Bombers Results:
  • Game 1 LVR vs WL Seaton: The Jr. Boys rallied in the 4th quarter to beat Seaton by a score of 47-41. A late surge, sparked by Gabe Liddell’s defensive intensity, lead the Bombers to a well deserved victory. Coen Morris contributed seven points off the bench in the win.
  • Game 2 LVR vs Princess Margaret: Thursday night, the boys fought hard against the home team, Princess Margaret, in front of an unruly crowd. In the end they fell to the Mustangs by a score 40 – 35, with a notable performance from Benjamin Stewart as he scored 10 of the Bombers 35 points.
  • Game 3 LVR vs Pen-Hi: A tough loss on Friday morning against the host school Penticton Secondary. The Bombers allowed 75 in a 30-point defeat. Chase Lake and Roman van’t Land kept us in the game early, scoring 19 and 14 points respectively. Final score 75-45.
  • Game 4 LVR vs Valleyview of Kamloops: To wrap up the tournament, the boys executed our game plan perfectly against a feisty Valleyview squad on Friday night. Every member of the team contributed to the 47-40 win, as Valleyview put the pressure on the final frame the boys stayed calm and composed, executing with poise down the stretch. Roman van’t Land secured player of the game scoring 17 points, while Chase Lake contributed 11, and Jack Boyes put the pressure on the defence all night, scoring seven points from the free throw line.
