Ziplining concludes training year for Nelson Air Cadets

The Nelson Air Cadets completed their 69th training year with a day of ziplining at Kokanee Mountain Ziplines.

After ziplining, the cadets had a picnic lunch that was supplied by the Squadron Sponsoring Committee and then they took a walking tour of Kokanee Provincial Park.

In the next training year, the cadets hope to be flying in both small aircraft and gliders, will be doing outdoor survival, flying the squadrons flight simulator and participating in air rifle training as well as other activities. 

Next year will be 561’s 70th year giving the youth of Nelson the unique experiences of the air cadet program. Since the squadron was formed in 1952, hundreds of youth have been a member of 561.

The squadron will be holding several events during the year to celebrate its history in Nelson. 

The squadron always welcomes new cadets who are between the ages of 12 and 18.

  • The Cadet Program is open to all Canadian youth from the ages of 12 to 18 regardless of income, race, religion, culture or other socio-economic factors. The program embraces Canada’s multiculturalism and offers young Canadian’s opportunities to interact with youth from other cultures. 
  • During the summer the senior cadets can attend summer training at location across the country and locally for junior cadets  Cadets can receive High School credits for completing their training.
