With high school basketball the latest sport to get cancelled due to coronavirus COVID-19 — grounding the L.V. Rogers Bombers — Mallard’s Source for sports thought it was a good time to take a look back at the hardcourt history with the latest installment of Team of the Week.
The 1981 LVR Bombers are featured as Team of the Week.
This Bomber squad was the first team in more than two decades to qualify for the BC Boy’s Basketball Championships to represent Nelson.
Nelson’s previous appearances at the Senior Division happened in 1958 and 1948.
The 1981 LVR Bombers, which lost both games at the provincials, include Gerry Montgomery, Brandon Stevens, Mark Heddle, Vance Rosling, Bruce Underwood, manager Mike Hurley and coach Larry Tremblay. Front, manager Rodney Ratcliffe, Les Skelton, Mike Maslechko, John Cowan, Paul Foster, Rob Farenholtz and Bryan Underwood.
