The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League has provided an update regarding the positive COVID-19 test result by a member of the Kimberley Dynamiters on Friday, October 30th.

The Interior Health Authority has completed the process of contact tracing following identification of the positive test case and recommended that nine additional members of the Dynamiters organization self-isolate for 14 days.

The Dynamiters have followed this guidance, and the quarantine period for those individuals will end on Wednesday, November 11th.

At this time, no additional Dynamiters players or staff have experienced COVID-19 symptoms or tested positive for the virus. However, out of an abundance of caution, the Dynamiters’ final exhibition game scheduled against the Fernie Ghostriders on Friday, November 6th has been cancelled.

KIJHL announces positive COVID-19 test

The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League announced Friday the league was forced to cancel some games due to a positive COVID-19 test.

The KIJHL said in a release on its website the league was notified Friday morning of a positive COVID-19 test by a member of the Kimberley Dynamiters.

The individual in question has been placed in a 14-day quarantine and the Kimberley Dynamiters organization is following the direction of the Interior Health Authority relative to further testing and contact tracing and adhering to all KIJHL Return to Play protocols,” the statement read.

The KIJHL said Kimberley’s games in Fernie on Friday, October 30th and Creston on Sunday, November 1st have been postponed while the team completes this process. Games involving other Eddie Mountain Division clubs will be played as scheduled this weekend since there had been no opportunity for exposure to players or staff from other clubs.

The KIJHL said the league will provide an update once additional information becomes available.
