Woman dies of street drug overdose — NPD

Nelson Police are reporting a second drug overdose in the city within the past two months.
Thursday, (June 4, 2020) at 7:07 p.m., NPD dispatch received a complaint of a female that was non-responsive in the backyard area of a structure in the 800 block of Vernon Street.
When police arrived, they found a female who was non-responsive. Despite all medical efforts, police said the female was pronounced deceased at scene.
“Police believe the death of the female was the result of a street drug overdose and her death is not believed to be suspicious,” Nelson Police said in a media release.
“The Nelson Police would like to re-iterate previous drug alerts for the Nelson area and advise to not use alone, to carry naloxone, and to get drugs tested if possible.”
Police said there has been a marked increase in overdose-related calls for service recently. NPD believes much of the local drug supply may be contaminated with other dangerous substances not known by the user.
Police are still determining what drug of drugs were involved and the file has been turned over to the BC Coroner’s Service.
In April, police responded to an overdosed man at the city park near the corner of Hendryx and Baker Street.
The person was also pronounced dead at the scene after efforts to revive the man by a doctor an paramedics proved to be unsuccessful.
