Nelson Police believe man's death result of street drug overdose

Nelson Police Department believe a man has died of a street drug overdose Sunday at the park near the corner of Hendryx and Baker Street.
Police said dispatch received to a call for medical assistance on Sunday, April 19th for an unresponsive male at the Hendryx Street Park.
Police said BC Ambulance, Nelson Fire Rescue Service and Dr. Nic Sparrow (KERPA) responded to the call as well.
“Prior to First Responders arrival, a member of the public was providing first aid treatment to the male,” Nelson Police media release said. “Efforts of First Responders to revive the male were not successful and the male regrettably passed away at the scene.”
Police said BC Coroners Service is handling the remainder of the investigation.
“The death of the male is not believed to be suspicious and is believed to be the result of a street drug overdose but has not been confirmed at this time,” NPD said.
“The identity of the male has not been released out of consideration for family members.”
Nelson Police Department would like to extend our condolences on behalf of all First Responders staff for the tragic loss that the family has incurred. Police said they are continuing the investigation in order to provide the public with the most up to date information on what street drugs are involved.
However, at this time due to information gathered it appears that much of the illicit drug supply in town may be of danger to those who consume it.
Drug consumers are advised not to use alone, to carry naloxone and to get drugs tested if possible. If anyone witnesses someone overdosing, call 911 immediately.
