Bombers claim second at Desert Classic High School Boys’ Basketball Tournament

The L.V. Rogers Bombers has a strong showing at the Desert Classic High School Boys’ Basketball Tournament Saturday in Osoyoos.

The Bombers lost 76-48 to fourth-ranked Single-A Barriere Cougars in the tournament final.

LVR pushed the Single-A power until the second half, trailing by three at intermission, before the Cougars size and strength overpowered the Bombers.

Matti Erickson paced the Bombers with 11 points.

LVR opened the tournament Friday with a lopsided 85-42 victory over Ashcroft. Senior Moss Caney was red-hot from downtown, converting five three-point attempts to pace the Bomber attack. Caney finished with 20 points while Mateo Katoaka had 15.

LVR then disposed of W.L. Seaton of Vernon 72-56 in semi-final action to advance to the final.

“The Bombers played their best all-around game of the season,” said LVR coach Ryan MacKinnon. “The team displayed incredible defence throughout the entire game.”

Erickson led the Bombers offensively, scoring 19 points while Isaac Vissers had 10.

LVR travels to Salmo to face the Falcons this week before hosting Grand Forks Wolves at 5 :30 p.m. February 26th.

The night will also honor graduating players on the roster during the “Senior Night” ceremony.

The Bombers are looking forward to hosting their “Senior Night” on February 26th at 5:30PM against the Grand Forks Wolves. 

The contest will be the final home game at the Hangar for seniors Carter Anderson, Johnny Michalchuk, Gab Samson, Theo Lincourt and Moss Caney.
