May 15th, 2019

The Walk to End ALS is the largest volunteer-led fundraiser for ALS Societies across Canada. Family-friendly and fun, it unites Canadians in their desire to put an end to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. This event shows support for the 3,000 Canadians and their families living with the disease; 400 of which are living in British Columbia.

Among the 15 Walks taking place across BC is the West Kootenay Walk.

  • Date: Sunday, June 2, 2019
  • Location: Lakeside Rotary Park in Nelson
  • Registration: 10 a.m. | Walk Start: 11 a.m.

“This event unites the country and rallies people affected by ALS,” said Wendy Toyer, Executive Director, ALS Society of BC. “Participants walk to show support for people living with and/or to honour the memory of a loved one lost. The Walk to End ALS inspires hope.  Please join us.”

Proceeds from the Walk to End ALS go to the ALS Society of BC to provide patient services programs for people living with ALS in BC, and to the ALS Canada Research Program to strive toward a world without ALS.

About Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a rapidly progressive, neuromuscular disease. It attacks the motor neurons that transmit electrical impulses from the brain to the voluntary muscles in the body. When they fail to receive messages, the muscles lose strength, atrophy and die. ALS can strike anyone at any time, regardless of age, gender, or ethnic origin. It does not affect the senses, and only rarely does it affect the mind.

About ALS Society of BC

The ALS Society of BC is dedicated to providing direct support to ALS patients, along with their families and caregivers, to ensure the best quality of life possible while living with ALS.  This support includes an extensive equipment loan program, support groups, psychological support and educational materials.  Through supporting research, we are committed to finding the cause of, and cure for ALS.
