There is an important gathering, called Water is Life Event, set for Friday at the Kootenay Lake Forestry Centre at Four Mile on the North Shore.

This peaceful mass gathering has been organized for Friday, November 2, beginning at noon, to represent all the communities in the region facing the impacts of industrial logging of their watersheds.  “This will be an opportunity to have all our community’s voices heard and represented and also to show our government officials that this is an issue that absolutely needs to be addressed,” a spokesperson said.

Concerns are that many local watersheds in the regional are being threatened with logging.

Those include:

  • Redfish.Liard Creek/Balfour Face
  • Coffee/Fletcher/Qeens
  • Ymir
  • Blewett
  • Glade
  • 49 Creek
  • Sandy Creek
  • Cottonwood Creek
  • Queens Creek
  • Bird Creek
  • Rossland
  • Hamill Creek
  • Ainsworth
  • Healy Creek/Trout Lake
  • Argenta-Johnsons Landing Face

There will be information, speakers, petitions, and a lot of concerned community members who want to ensure the integrity of their water takes precedence over industrial volume-based logging interests, particularly at the height of global climate crisis.
