Satellite fire hall under construction in Kettle Valley

In a media release, the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) said construction of a new satellite fire hall in Rock Creek is now fully underway.

The RDKB said the foundation has been poured, the walls are framed and the roof should be on by early October, depending upon weather. The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) is on target to complete the project in November 2018.

Completion of the new fire hall will be a major milestone toward increasing capacity of the Midway Fire/Rescue Service. This satellite hall will be home to one of the engines for Midway Fire/Rescue, who will operate and staff the hall to respond to local fire and rescue calls.

The RDKB received a Licence of Occupation for the site from the Province of BC at the end of July and awarded the building contract to Pownall Construction from Rock Creek in August 2018. The RDKB broke ground in early September.

The West Boundary (Kettle Valley) Fire Services Advisory Committee met throughout the past summer to ensure the building design was on schedule, the contractor selected and work began before fall weather hit.

The advisory committee chair is Ross Elliot and members are Doug McMynn, Owen Stewart, Jim Smith and Vicki Gee. Midway Fire Chief Walt Osellame, RDKB General Manager of Operations James Chandler, other staff from the RDKB and the Village of Midway will continue to provide advice and guidance to the group.

The RDKB will provide another update when the project is completed.
