Summer Training success for Nelson Air Cadets

During the summer, several cadets from 561 Nelson Osprey Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Cadets attended summer training at Cadet Training Centres in western Canada.

Four cadets were at the Albert Head Cadet Training Center near Victoria BC. At Albert Head, three cadets attended the General Training two-week course and one cadet took the six-week Fitness and Sports Instructor Course.

Three Cadets were at the Vernon Cadet Training Centre. Two cadets attended the three-week Basic Fitness and Sports Course and one cadet spent six weeks employed as an instructor and cadet leader. Ryley Thompson was the Top Cadet in her Basic Fitness and Sports platoon.

Two cadets were at the Cold Lake Cadet Training Centre in Alberta. One cadet was on the three-week Basic Aviation course and one cadet on the six-week Survival Instructor course.

The squadron starts its 2018-2019 Training Year on Wednesday September 5th at 6:15 pm in the Nelson Eagles Hall, 641 Baker Street.

  • The Cadet Program is minimal cost, while uniforms and all summer training is free of cost.
  • Cadets learn to become active, responsible members of their communities. They make valuable contributions to Canadian society on a daily basis through citizenship and community-service activities.
  • Air Cadets receive a foundation in aviation and aerospace related subjects. Beyond basic aviation training and familiarization flying experience, additional opportunities for air cadets include summer training in intensive advanced aviation subjects.
