Kerry Dyck, who lost a battle with cancer earlier this year, would have been very proud of his son after Jaden was named the recipient of the inaugural Hume Innkeepers Kerry Dyck Memorial Scholarship Tuesday at the Lakeside Pitch.

“It’s a $500 scholarship given to a youth player playing in the men’s league based on soccer ability, overall involvement in the sport in Nelson as judged by all members of our team (Hume Innkeepers),” said Kevin Lewis of the Innkeepers.

“We presented it to Jaden because of his soccer ability, leadership qualities and that he refs and coaches in Nelson Youth Soccer,” Lewis added.

The money will be used for Dyck as he continues his post-secondary education.

The Hume Innkeepers play in the Mallard’s Men’s Open Adult League with Oso Negro, Old Dogs and Dyck’s team, Nelson Youth Soccer Selects.

Kerry Dyck, a graduate of L.V. Rogers High School, was a key cog in Nelson Youth Soccer for many years, coaching and serving on the executive. He was also coach and manager of the Hume Innkeepers for many years, helping the squad capture the 2017 Mallard’s Men’s Open League last fall.

Kerry Dyck was also honoured last month by BC Soccer, claiming the Awards of Merit.

Kerry Dyck was nominated by the BC Soccer Membership as well as the Board of Directors for recognition of contributions to soccer, during a period of ten or more years, as a player, manager, coach, official, or administrator at the club/league or district Level. The announcement was made during the spring by BC Soccer Association.
