Two Nelson Minor Hockey Association players have been selected to attend the BC Hockey U15 Provincial Tournament beginning Thursday at the South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton.

Seamus Boyd and Rhett Hamilton earned the selection to the U15 Program of Excellence tournament following a successful showing during the Regional Camp recently held, also in Penticton.

Both Boyd and Hamilton, both forwards, were key players on the Bantam Leafs Silver Medal showing at the BC Hockey Bantam Tier III Championships hosted in Nelson during March.

The regional tryout invited players born in 2004 to a three-day session with provincial coaches putting the campers through numerous on and off ice training and skills development sessions.

The top players during these camps were selected to attend the U15 Provincial Tournament.

The 160 players are now selected to eight jamboree-style teams.

As part of the event, BC Hockey and the Western Hockey League (WHL) bring WHL Combine Testing to:

  • Assist hockey players with skill development through a national skill testing program
  • Utilize the latest in combine testing technology
  • Present players with sport testing results in a national database

    • gives players a ranking within the database
    • identifies key areas for improvement

Boyd will play Team Yellow while Hamilton has been picked to play on Team Green. Hamilton and Boyd join teammate Joe Davidson to receive provincial honours. Davidson was selected to play in the BC Cup last month in Salmon Arm.
