The Nelson Leafs made a deal Thursday to open up a roster spot, sending forward Ryan Keilty to the Kimberley Dynamiters in exchange for a player development fee.

The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League Team General Manager Lance Morey made the announcement Friday.

Morey said the trade was made to give management some flexibility to strengthen the roster by acquiring some players from Junior A.

Keilty, 19, had seen action in 23 of the Leafs 25 games this season, scoring four goals while adding an assist.

The December 1 deadline reduces the number of playing cards to all Canadian Junior Hockey League teams.

Leafs right back at it against Rebels

Round two of the Nelson-Castlegar grudge match goes Saturday in the Sunflower City.

The Leafs were not at all happy the Rebels snapped the Green and White winning streak.

Nelson was missing defenceman Dash Thompson and Zach Morey for the game as well as forward Logan Wullum. Wullum was sitting out the first game of a three-game suspension after being assessed a gross misconduct during Nelson’s 3-2 win over Grand Forks November 24th.

Wullum is eligible to be back in the lineup for the December 9th game at home against the Border Bruins.

Morey said defenceman Dash Thompson will also not play Saturday in Castlegar while Zach Morey is expected back in the lineup.

Nelson leads Castlegar by six points heading into the weekend clash.
