Kootenay Lake School students to participate in Great BC Shakeout

Kootenay Lake Superintendent, Christine Perkins said students in the district are going to shake it up a little as part of the Great BC Shakeout on Thursday (October 19).
The event is an opportunity for students, specifically at 10:19 a.m. Thursday, to participate in drill in an event of an earthquake hits the region.
“We are pleased to announce that SD8 schools will be participating in the Great BC Shakeout on Thursday, October 19 at 10:19 a.m.,” Perkins said in Kootenay Lake School media release.
“The drill is meant to prepare all BC students and residents by practicing Drop, Cover and Hold On as part of Emergency Management.
“The release said many of our families and students travel overseas and to earthquake prone areas and no amount of preparation can be enough.”
While Kootenay Lake students will be participating in the drill, the public at large — at home, at work, at school, anywhere — can also participate with the Drop, Cover and Hold On components should a major earthquake occur at that very moment.
Participants should stay in this position for at least 60 seconds.
ShakeOutBC encourages Businesses, organizations, schools and government agencies to register and have their employees practice Drop, Cover, and Hold On or have a more extensive emergency drill.
The main goal of ShakeOutBC is to get British Columbians prepared for major earthquakes, so use the ShakeOutBC drill as an opportunity to learn what to do before, during, and after an earthquake.
