The Nelson Leafs conclude the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League exhibition season this weekend with three home games at the NDCC Arena.

The Leafs, fresh off a 4-2 loss to the defending KIJHL Champion Nitehawks, host Beaver Valley Friday at 7 p.m. to begin the three-game set.

Nelson led 2-1 after 20 minutes before the Hawks stormed back with three straight goals — two in the second frame and one marker in the third.

Saturday Castlegar visits the Heritage City for a 7 p.m. date before the third Murdoch rival, Grand Forks Border Bruins finish off the preseason Sunday with an afternoon tilt.

The six-game exhibition season has allowed management to see first hand what kind of team will open the regular season Friday, September 8 against Beaver Valley at the NDCC Arena.

Nelson finished last season in third spot in the Murdoch Division with a 21-21-1-0-4 record.

The Leafs then upset Castlegar in the first round of the plays before falling to the eventual KIJHL Champion Nitehawks in four games.
