Bombers flying high after Day one of 2016 BC High School AA Girl’s Soccer Championships

Oh so close but yet so far away for the L.V. Rogers Bombers at the 2016 BC High School AA Girl’s Soccer Championships in Campbell River.

Still a shot a the Final Four remains in the cards for the Kootenay Reps after the Bombers finished Day one of the 16-team tournament tied for top spot in Pool D with Seycove of North Vancouver — both teams finishing with four points on identical 1-0-1 records.

However, the Bombers could have been the driver’s seat had it not been for a late game collapse against Ladysmith.

Leading 3-1 with time running out after already posting a victory in Game one, the Bombers saw the Vancouver Island squad score twice in a nine-minute span to draw 3-3 with LVR during round robin action Thursday afternoon.

LVR appeared to be in control against Ladysmith. Goals by Naomi Perkins, Darion Voisard and Laurel Halleran put the Bombers in the driver’s seat.

But a few defensive breakdowns allowed Ladysmith to cut the lead to 3-2 before evening the score a 3-3 before the final whistle sounded to end the game.

LVR opened the tournament earlier in the day with a resounding 3-1 win over Burnsview of Delta.

Perkins continued her assault as LVR’s highest scoring forward in school history by netting three goals.

Keeper Hanna Quinn was solid between the pipes as well as the back line of Emma Wheeldon, Maya Ida and Emily Taylor.

LVR and Seycove meet Friday in the final round robin match at 9 a.m.

The winners advances to the semi finals while the loser drops into consolation round action.

The tourney final goes Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
