The first trip back to the fieldhockey provincials proved to be a great experience for the L.V. Rogers Bombers.

The wild card squad finished 10th overall at the 12-team B.C. High School AA Girl’s Fieldhockey Championships ending Friday at the Burnaby Lakes Sports Complex.

LVR lost out to West Kootenay rival Rossland Royals 2-1 in the consolation round of the tournament.

Grade 9 Emma Borhi scored the lone goal for the Bombers.

“It was a great season with five major tournaments . . . (plus) we got into the Provincials as a Wild Card,” said Bomber coach Val Gibson.

Playing for the first time at a provincial championship in years, the Bombers were ranked 12th overall and were up against the elite in the province.

LVR lost 5-0 to West Vancouver’s Collingwood, 1-0 Southridge of Surrey and 3-1 to Mark Isfeld of Vancouver Island. The lone LVR goal was scored unassisted by Allie Zondervan.

In the consolation round LVR scored its first win of the tournament edging Okanagan Mission of Kelowna 1-0 by Grade 10 Sarah Wade.

The Bombers kept the winning alive by defeating GWG of Chilliwack 2-1 in shootout. Naomi Perkins and Sydney Zondervan scored for LVR.

The loss to Rossland saw the end of high school careers of defender Chelsea Chirico, midfielder Paige Mansveld and forward Sydney Zondervan and rookie Grade 12 player Brynn Forsey.
