Wilson, May outlast huge field to take home Kootenay Kramp titles

Taylor Wilson of J.V. Humphries and Bomber Micah May took home the top prize as the Kootenay Kramp High School Cross Country race Wednesday at L.V. Rogers.

Wilson nipped LVR’s Maddy Murphy in a sprint finish to claim the senior girl’s title in a time of 26 minutes, 38 seconds. Murphy finished right behind the Kaslo runner in a time of 26:43.

Third was Lucy Carver of Wildflower at 28:59.

Mia Ida of Trafalgar was fourth followed by Hailee Gerun of LVR in fifth.

May covered the grueling 6.4 kilometer Kramp course in a time of 30:22 to win the senior boy’s race over Livi Smith of LVR.

Owen Thurston of LVR was third at 33:18 as the host Bombers took the top six spots.

Eli Bukowski of J.V. Humphries snapped the Bomber streak of top finishers.

In junior boys, swimmer turned runner Samuel Matthew edged teammate Owen Box by a second to place first.

Third was Keiran Marchand with Ezra Foy fourth as Trafalgar runners took the top four spots.

Rossland’s Michaela McLean stopped the LVR, Trafalgar, J.V. Humphries domination by capturing the junior girl’s division.

Isabella Kroker of Trafalgar finished second with Sage Wilton of J.V. Humphries third.

In the open boys race, BlackJack Cross Country skiers David Palmer, Julien Locke and Peter Locke finished one-two-three.

The trio raced in preparation for the upcoming winter season on snow.

More than 60 runners tackled the grueling Kootenay Kramp course that took participants through and over trails above Nelson.
