Spreading the wealth: numerous Nelson artists, culture groups nail down funding
Nelson Poetry Slam, Horsefly Magazine and Oxygen Art Centre were some of the Nelson groups that were successful in landing one of the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance arts and culture grants.
Of the 133 arts, culture and heritage projects — including the Nelson and District Arts Council — received a total of $555,000 in funding support for the 2011–2012 season through the Alliance (CKCA), in partnership with Columbia Basin Trust (CBT).
“This year the choices were the toughest we have ever made, as the number of applications continues to grow,” said Jacquie Hamilton, Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance chair.
See listing below for the Nelson and area artists and groups that managed to secure funding for their projects.
CKCA administers and manages arts, culture and heritage program funding on behalf of CBT. Funding applications were adjudicated in May by the CKCA steering committee, with input from community arts councils.
Support will go toward a wide range of projects, including individual and group projects, master classes, major exhibitions and heritage capital projects.
CKCA funding helps individuals and organizations realize heritage projects and projects in all arts disciplines, including visual art, theatre, music, dance, media, literature and inter-arts.
