An American woman who helped get breast milk for a terminally ill baby in Nelson journeyed Thursday to the Heritage city to meet the family that has since inspired her to start a global helping foundation.

Katie Shutt traveled from Dallas, Tex., to Nelson to meet Camara Cassin and her 20-month-old baby, the Vancouver Province reported, weeks after Cassin started using social media to find more breats milk for her daughter, Anaya.

The baby, whose stomach is paralyzed and cannot digest anything, was diagnosed nearly one year ago with Infantile Krabbe Leukodystrophy, a rare neurodegenerative disease that has taken her mobility and sight, and will eventually take her life.
