Ice climber escapes certain death in avalanche near Golden
An ice climber escaped certain death in an avalanche Monday afternoon near Golden, the region’s RCMP have reported.
On Monday, March 7 at approximately 2 p.m., three ice climbers were climbing approximately five kilometres east of Golden off the Trans Canada Highway.
A small avalanche was triggered and one of the climbers was buried. He was rescued by another climber and sustained minor injuries. All three climbers were local to Golden.
The Trans Canada Highway was closed to facilitate air rescue and for avalanche safety but has been reopened.
