Kootenay faces Vancouver Fusion Saturday at NDCC Arena
By The Nelson Daily Sports
The Kootenay Wildcats face a tough test this weekend when the squad plays host to the always-tough Vancouver Fusion in B.C. Female Midget AAA Hockey League play at the NDCC Arena.
The Cats, 2-0 on the season after posting a weekend sweep of Prince George Cougars, meet the high-powered Fusion Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and Sunday at 9 a.m.
Kootenay leads the five-team league following the opening weekend. Okanagan Rockets and Fraser Valley Phantom are tied for second followed by the Prince George Cougars. The Fusion plays its first game of the season against Kootenay.
The B.C. Female Midget AAA Hockey League has been reduced to five teams this season after the Vancouver Island Impact decided not to enter a team. The Impact plans on returning to the league next season.
The Female Midget AAA League was initiated in the 2007-2008 season in response to the membership’s desire to provide an opportunity for elite female hockey players to come together on zone teams to challenge other elite Female Midget teams.
