Walsh, Laurie
(July 7th, 2024)

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Laurene (Laurie) Walsh, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Laurie succumbed to her fierce battle with cancer, passing away peacefully, with family by her side, on July 7, in Nelson BC, taken away from us far too soon.
Laurie was a kind-hearted, thoughtful woman, who was consistently generous. She was a friend to many, always putting others before herself. She was caring and loving even up to her last moments. She had a positive outlook, never complaining, despite her courageous battle with cancer. Her sense of humour stayed intact, even near the end, bringing moments of joy to those who gathered to be with her.
Laurie was an adventurous and fun-loving person, who enjoyed spending time in Mexico with her wife, family and friends. She loved being by the ocean, her toes in the sand.
Even on her toughest days, she loved to spend time with her granddaughters, cooking, playing, and snuggling and was always able to find the energy to be silly with them and make them laugh.
She enjoyed even the smallest of things, and it brought her great happiness to be together with family and friends, enjoying good food and wine, conversation, and music.
Laurie was born in Sioux Lookout Ontario, on October 5, 1961. She and her wife and their son moved to Nelson in 1992, where she continued her work in the field of home improvement. She worked at Nelson Home Building Centre for nearly twenty years. She was well liked by customers and coworkers alike and maintained many lifelong friendships. If you were lucky enough to have known her, you’d likely describe her as one of the best people you’d ever known.
She will be deeply missed by her loving wife Anna Maskerine, son Christian Maskerine (Nicole), Granddaughters Nevaiya and Nya, brothers Pat (Jenny), David (Marina) and Vern (Fern) Walsh and all her family and friends who gave her great support throughout her battle.
She was predeceased by her parents Elva and Walter Walsh, brothers Lyle and Gary (Walsh) and sister Darlene Venne.
Many sincere thanks to Doctors Milde, and the Nelson, Kelowna and Vancouver Oncology Departments.
There are no words for the deep loss we feel. She has left us all with a void that cannot be filled.
A private gathering to honour Laurie will take place at a later date.
Donations in Laurie’s name can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
