Sturtevant, Rodrick (Rod)

(December 12th, 2023)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rodrick (Rod) Sturtevant at the age of 75.  He passed away at home in Nelson on Dec 12, 2023, after a lengthy battle with Prostate Cancer.  Born March 14, 1948, in San Francisco to Mike and Mary Louise Sturtevant.  Rod and his brothers Eric and Jon grew up and attended schools in Berkeley California.  In 1976 Rod met his wife Nancy at Camp Sacramento, and they married 2 years later.

Rod learned to make stained glass, and upon coming to Canada in 1981 worked in stained glass and went on to work for local businesses in the Nelson community.  During this time, they had three children, Christopher, Patrick, and Michelle.  Very much involved in youth sports, Rod played an instrumental part in getting the Tyler Lake Fieldhouse financed and built.  Rod also played a role in several community issues including leading the “stop the restaurant in the park” movement.  Rod loved spending time with family, especially his two little granddaughters.  He enjoyed playing golf and fishing, listening to his favorite band, the Grateful Dead, and watching sports of all kinds.

Rod is survived by wife Nancy, children Christopher (Carolyn), Patrick (Bernardita), and Michelle (Cory), granddaughters Raegan and Blakelyn, and brothers Eric and Jon.  There will be a celebration of life next spring/summer.
