Strand, Alice
(May 15th, 2023)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Alice Strand on May 15, 2023, at the age of 85. Our family was together, by her side, loving and supporting our beautiful, strong Mother.
She was loved and adored by many. She is survived by her three children, Rick Shypitka (Rati Aurora), Alyson Hryniuk (Allan), and Jennifer Shypitka (Tedd Robertson). Mom’s love and strong support will always live within us. To her grandchildren, Julia, Brian, Ana, and Raleigh she was a loving playful Grammy. Mom was so proud of her grandchildren and her first great grandchild, Bo. She taught us all the strong solid sense of family. Family was everything to Mom.
Everyone that knew Mom knows her playful side, her silly practical jokes, and great sense of humour. She held onto this to her end. Mom will truly be missed by all, as she was one of a kind and so special to so many people.
Mom grew up in Moyie and then Cranbrook. Her parents Harry and Annie Strand had five daughters and one son. Mom was the eldest daughter. Family time in Cranbrook was always a big fun celebration. Nelson has been Mom’s home for 60 years. She was a successful business owner for many years with her interior design store, Magnolia Decor. She was well respected for the beautiful work she did. Throughout her life she always enjoyed travel and she was a talented seamstress, cook, and painter. Alice took great pride in her business, the community of Nelson, and thoroughly enjoyed this part of her life.
Our family cannot express enough gratitude to Mom’s doctor, Margaret MacIntyre, and the exceptional nurses and staff on the third floor of KLH. Your knowledge, support, and kindness guided us.
Mom loved hosting and attending a good party, so in her honour we will celebrate her life together in the fall, with good food, and good friends. Date and location to be announced.
