Shaull, LaVerne R.

Former publisher of the Nelson Daily News, LaVerne R. Shaull passed away Sunday at the age of 77 in Hope Mills, NC.
Born August 7, 1938 in Fostoria, Ohio, he was the son of the late Jesse David and Rozella Kelbley Shaull.
Verne was a Publisher, Editor, General Manager, Reporter who spent more than three decades in the newspaper and printing industry in the US and Canada. He was veteran of the U.S. Army.
Those operations included including Publisher of the Nelson Daily News in Nelson, BC, Publisher/General Manager of the Welland Daily Tribune (Welland, Ontario), Publisher/General Manager of the Cambridge Daily News (Cambridge, Ontario), Publisher/General Manager of the Wapakoneta Daily News (Wapakoneta, Ohio), Reporter for the Toledo Daily Times (Toledo, Ohio), and Reporter for the Findlay Daily Courier (Findlay, Ohio). Verne also served as the Public Relations Manager for Chrysler Airtemp and Airtemp International in Dayton, Ohio and Public Information Specialist for the United Nations Command and U.S. Forces Far East in Soul Korea.
Verne loved the newspaper industry and became a part of every community through out his career. He was best known for his dedication and hard work in every endeavor he undertook.
Verne was a graduate of Bowling Green State University and Arcadia High School. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Grace, daughter Michelle (husband Darren) and son Verne (wife Theresa) as well as granddaughter Heather (husband Shawn, great grandchildren Layla and Gavin) and grandson Stetson.
Best known by his friends and colleagues for his dedication and hardworking style and his contagious smile. He was involved with the Fraternal order of the Elks, Rotary International (Paul Harris Fellow, President) and Chamber of Commerce.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. at Pinecrest Funeral Services, 4721 Dunrobin Drive, Hope Mills, NC, 28348, 910-429-1011 with a reception from 2-4 p.m.
