Scheffer, Edith

(July 13th, 2024)

It is with sadness that we announce the death of our mother Edith Scheffer, who at 89 passed peacefully at Mountain Lakes on Saturday, July 13th 2024.

Edith was born in Yugoslavia and immigrated in 1951 to Hamilton, where she worked as a hairdresser, got married, and had 3 children. Then a family trip out West in 1975 prompted a move to Nelson, and 5 years later followed with the unfortunate passing of her husband Werner Scheffer. She decided to stay, joined Poulin Agency, and eventually began to build a new life with Ted Chapman. She loved to ski, swim, dance, head out on the boat, and yes ride motorcyles, travel, and visits with her grandchildren.

Edith is survived by her son Robert (Yolly), and daughters Judy and Julie, 4 grandchildren Brandon, Jesse (Julia), Scott, and Amanda (Jeff), and 2 great granddaughters Nova and Zoe.

She was always very proud of her family and taught us resilience. Her two sisters Herta and Helga were very dear to her heart and an important part of strength for her in life. She will be missed and remembered by all.

We are greatful for all the staff at Mountain Lakes during her stay that made her days brighter with daily care, kind words, and smiles. We sincerely apologize for the many toes she rolled over with her wheel chair while out and about during her stay.

Edith has been cremated and there will be a private family remembrance at a later date.
